1St Sgt Howard L. Mann Army Retired)

1st Sgt Howard L. Mann (US Army Retired) was born Dec. 3, 1930 in Little Canada, MN. He died Oct. 14, 2014 at the Shawnee Mission Med. Ctr., Merriam, KS.

Howard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hanna Coleman Mann; two sons, Martin "Bob" Mann and Howard "Tony" Mann and his wife, Debra all of Shawnee; daughter, Mary Mann of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Kyle and his wife, Katrina and Travis; granddaughter, Shelley; two brothers, Kenneth Mann, Clarksville, TN and Gene Mann, Appleton, WI.

In 1969, he retired after 22years of service in the Army. He served worldwide, including two tours of Korea during the Korean Conflict, two tours of Japan, three tours in Germany and a tour of Kermanshah, Iran. Many assignments in the United States, including Ft. Knox, KY, Ft. Irwin, CA, Ft. Leavenworth, KS and Pasadena, CA. He also served as the Army Recruiter in Warren, OH where he won the statewide recruiting contest. After his Army retirement, he worked 18 years for GSA, retiring in 1988 as branch chief for Region 6 in the Federal Protection Service. After his second retirement he spent his time traveling the United States with his wife, Hanna. He was very active in square dancing, also enjoying fishing and camping. He is well known for his craft work, displaying and selling his handmade crafts at many craft shows.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, Oct. 20 at the Amos Family Funeral Home; burial in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 am Monday at the funeral home.
