A. C. Surratt, Sr was born December 21, 1939 in Plummerville, Arkansas to the union of F.T and Murtlee (McCoy) Surratt. He departed this life on February 7th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. A.C. Attended school in Little Rock, Arkansas and later moved to Kansas City Mo to be with his older sister. A.C. Worked for Pooches Cafeteria on the Plaza as a chef and did private event catering for Russell Stover's and his family. A.C. later relocated to Rockford Ill where he was the head chef at Nino's steak house before medically retiring in 2004.
A.C was proceeded in death by both parents, his youngest son, Donte Black, three brothers, McKinley Roberts, Joe Gilliam, and F.T. Surratt Jr, and three sisters, Ernestine Brown, Eula Mae Roberts and Selestean Walker.
A.C. Loved living life to the fullest and he loved being around his family. Whenever he would come to town, everyone would know it. His sister Seleste would cook up a meal fit for a king, her little brother, and it would always feature her famous fried chicken, which was A.C.'s favorite thing to eat. In 2009, A.C. Suffered a debilitating stroke and could no longer live in Rockford by himself. That's when he came to Kansas City, Mo to live with his oldest daughter Rhoda (Surratt) Fielder for a brief period and then with his daughter Carol Anne (Surratt) Woodard in Shawnee, Ks until his death.
A.C. truly enjoyed being around his family, especially his great grandchildren who would always run up the stairs to his room to say hello grandpa, bringing a big smile to his face. He would always ask the little ones "How old are you" just so that he could hear them say that they were older than what they really were.
Celebrating his life and cherishing his memories are his children: Rhoda "Surratt" Fielder (Camelos), Richelle "Surratt" Epps (Michael), Carol Anne "Surratt" Woodard (Darryl) who was also his loving caregiver, Anshanette "Surratt" Hawkins, Arthur Surratt, Jr, and Edmund Surratt, Sr; five brothers: Bennie Joe Surratt, Robert Eugene Roberts, John Surratt, Thomas Surratt, and Jerry Surratt (Joyce): four sisters: Evelyn Ferguson (Alvin), Freda Roberts, Velma Surratt, and Helen Surratt, two great aunts: Juanita Mitchell (aka Aunt Sister), and Lirlene McCoy, 18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special ex-wife and friend, Mary "Surratt" Maple.
Due to COVID, the family will be holding a private memorial service to immediate family only on Monday, February 15th.
