Albert “Gus” Chown

Albert C. Chown, 85, of Spring Hill, KS passed away May 19, 2014. He was born May 10, 1929 to Albert C. and Elizabeth Chown of Shawnee, KS. He worked for many years along side his father as a Brick Mason. He then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Radio Operator. After serving in the military, Albert opened the Merriam Barbecue which he owned and operated for many years. Following his retirement from the restaurant business he moved to Spring Hill and began farming. Albert enjoyed his farm, hunting, fishing and gold mining in Breckenridge, Colorado. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Marlynne Chown (1988), by his wife Evelyn Chown (2009), by his son Mark Chown, and sisters Helen Chown and Mary Van Mol. He is survived by his daughter, Krista Bartlett of McLouth, KS, daughter-in-law Mary Chown, of Nampa, ID, grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas, Peter Chown, Erica Chown, Justin Chown, Haley Chown, and Amy Chown, two great-grandchildren, along with step daughters Julie Langston and Joyce Arnold and her daughter Shannon.

Visitation & Funeral Service

A visitation will be held Friday, May 23rd, from 6 to 8 pm at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rosary will be recited at 6pm. A funeral service will be held Sat. May 24th, at 10:30 am also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee, KS.
