Alta L. Bingham

Alta L. Bingham, 91, Lenexa, Kansas, died March 28, 2012, at Shawnee Gardens Nursing and Rehab, Shawnee, Kansas.

Alta was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to William H. and Tabitha E. Bingham. She attended Westport High School and Kansas City Junior College. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1942 with a B.S. in education, and was elected to Phi Lamda Theta, an honorary education organization.

Immediately following graduation she became a member of the faculty of William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. She returned to Kansas City in 1945 and was employed as a medical secretary and assistant. In 1952, she became a member of the staff of the Kansas City Southwest Clinical Society. She served the society as Executive Director for 33 years, retiring in 1986. During her service to the clinical society, she also was administrator of the Continuing Education Division of the University of Kansas City School of Medicine, Executive Secretary of the Greater Kansas City Society of Internist, Missouri Society of Internal Medicine and the Great Plains Occupational Medical Association.

Following retirement, she became a volunteer of the Greater Kansas City Alzheimer's Association and served on the Board of Directors. She was a member of the Society of Association Executives and the National Convention in Management Association. She was a member of the Community Christian Church. She also was a former member of the Zonta Club of Kansas City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William H. Bingham, Jr. and Clifford E. Bingham. She is survived by a cousin, Emma June Eberhart, Lawrence, Kansas and family.

Cremation with a graveside service and burial 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
