Ann Straka, Lenexa, Kansas, age 96, died Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Kansas City Hospice House. Ann was born November 26, 1917, in Western Pennsylvania, third oldest of the eight children of George and Elizabeth (Checkon) Straka. In 1941 the family moved to northern New Jersey where Ann began working for the then New Jersey Bell Telephone Co., which after many mergers is now Verizon. During her many years of service she advanced through the ranks and retired in a supervisory position. After retirement Ann moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she maintained a home for over fifteen years. Wanting to be nearer to two siblings, Ann relocated to Palm Harbor, Florida, living there until recently moving to Lenexa. Ann was a gentle and kind soul, giving to others but also treasured her independence. She loved traveling and spending time with her circle of friends in Arizona and Florida. At both locations, Ann volunteered for her church and also local hospitals. Predeceased by her parents and six siblings, Ann is survived by her brother Dan (Judy) Straka, Lenexa, and nieces and nephews. Complying with her wishes, no services will be held.
