Ann Templin was born on September 25, 1935 in Concordia, Kansas to Vola and Homer Templin of Clyde, Kansas.  She passed away on July 23, 2022 in Overland Park, Kansas.  She was named Annette Templin but early on declared that she was “just Ann.”  She attended schools in Clyde and St. John, Kansas, graduating from St. John High School in 1953. Ann attended the University of Kansas, obtaining bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Bacteriology.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into the honor fraternity Phi Beta Kappa.  Following graduation from KU, Ann moved to California where she pursued additional graduate studies and became a science researcher in the Biochemistry Laboratory at the University of California Berkeley.  She continued in that position until her retirement in 1991.

Following her retirement, Ann moved back to Lawrence, Kansas and rejoined the Lawrence First United Methodist Church, where she participated in many volunteer activities. She also drove for Meals on Wheels; volunteered with Small World Lawrence, a non-profit providing English language instruction for international women; played tennis; and worked part-time.  She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, knitting and quilting.  Ann also enjoyed learning about other cultures and traveling, and was able to visit Australia and New Zealand through her work.  She also enjoyed a trip to Provence, France with a KU Alumni Group.  Prior to her last illness, she was a resident of the Pioneer Ridge Independent Living community in Lawrence.

Ann was predeceased by her parents and a sister Jean who died as an infant.  She is survived by her brother, Jay, of Overland Park, nieces Laura Swoyer (Greg) of Shawnee, Beth Gardner (Mike) of Stilwell, and Christie Holm (Mike) of Gladstone, seven grand nieces and nephews, and three great nephews.
