Anna Kiessling Bunch

Anna Kiessling Bunch, age 88, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012.

Anna was born January 29, 1924, to Andreas Kiessling and Maria Lechner Kiessling in Kobermoor, Germany. She was born into a family of seven brothers, one of whom survives her.

As a teenager at the end of WW II, Anna was forced to work as a train conductor on the railway line from Munich, Germany to the Brenner Pass in Italy. She was responsible for evacuation of the train many times due to the bombardment of the train.

After the war, Anna worked as a waitress in a restaurant where she met her future husband US Army Staff Sergeant William (Bill) Bunch serving in Bad Aibling, Germany. They were married September 10, 1955, in Kobermoor. The following year, Bill, Anna and son, Klaus F. Bunch, moved to the USA. Anna was so proud of her naturalized American citizenship.

In 2003, Anna returned to her native country only to find she missed America and her many friends too much. She returned to the Overland Park area and due to declining health eventually moved to a nursing facility where she died. Anna was a long-time member of Lenexa United Methodist Church.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and six brothers.

Anna is survived by her son, Klaus Bunch and wife, Ursula; one grandson, Oliver; one great-grandson, Niclas Benjamin Bunch; and one brother, all of Munich, Germany.

A visitation will befrom 12 noon to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 2:30 p.m.
