Anna Marie Derks, 75, Shawnee, KS passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a rosary will be held at 5:00 pm.
Anna was born on October 25, 1945 to Samuel and Mary Uzelac in in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Ronald W. Derks on February 12, 1972 at St. John’s Catholic Church and continued to live in the Kansas City area throughout her life, planting roots in Shawnee, Kansas where she and Ron raised a family of four girls. When not spending time with her family, volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic Church or enjoying a few hours at the casino, Anna loved to travel. She and Ron had made memories in Rome, Alaska, Serbia, Ireland, Scotland, a cruise on the Danube, along with many trips to visit her grandchildren on the West Coast.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Michael Patrick Uzelac.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Ronald W. Derks; daughters, Eileen Marie Derks-Wilson (Dave), Sarah Ann Derks, Rachel Mary White (Richard), and Jessica Rose Mills (Steve); and her seven grandchildren, Sophia, Charlotte, Joe, Molly, Lyla, Leo, and Samantha.
Memorial contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to The Mission Project which enables adults with developmental disabilities to live full and satisfying lives. www.themissionproject.org
