Annemarie, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on July 11, 2009, surrounded by her children.
Annemarie’s life began in Belgrade, Yugoslavia on November 2, 1926. Branca Vojnovitch (Annemarie’s given name) had one sister and two loving parents. Branca left Belgrade after the Nazi’s invaded Yugoslavia. After losing her parents, Branca journeyed through Europe. In Linz, Austria, she met her future husband, an American G.I. In July of 1947, Annemarie arrived in America and married Thomas Doran, settling in Kansas City. In 1958, she married her second husband, Richard Burnett, and resided in Overland Park.
Annemarie adored her three children and is survived by Valerie Doran Bashaw, Michael Doran, and Tracy Burnett Edwards and their spouses, Joe, Cheryl, and Dale, and her grandchildren, Jared and Monika Doran, Ramie Doran, and Ryan Sylva.
Annemarie loved life. She was an incurable romantic, loving music and dancing. She enjoyed different cultures and their history, liked to debate politics, was passionate about learning and teaching her children. She taught them how to love others unconditionally and without prejudice. Annemarie had a heart for those in need. She gave her children and grandchildren the gift of compassion.
We, her children, want to express our love and appreciation to all of those who have blessed our mother over the years and to all who are reaching out and sharing love and kindness at this time. We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice in the freedom she has gained.
