Arlene L. Erlandson, 91, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Bickford Assisted Living.
Arlene was born February 20, 1927 to the late Perry and Elsye Curry in Dixon County, Nebraska. After high school, Arlene went to work for Western Union in Sioux City, Iowa and was transferred to Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life Joseph. They were married on November 2, 1946 in Chanute Airfield, Illinois. Shortly after they were married, Arlene and Joe moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Arlene attended key punch operator school and worked for Boston Edison. On the way to California, the family stopped in Ponca, Nebraska and never left. Arlene was an active Girl Scout leader when her daughters were young. She was also a member of PEO International and the Lion's Club, where she served as President. In 1970 Arlene and Joe moved to Lenexa, Kansas where she started her career as an Accounts Payable Supervisor for the Shawnee Mission School District. She retired in 1989. After retirement Arlene and Joe enjoyed traveling and visited the Great Wall in China and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Arlene was well known for wearing unique socks and loved her jewelry.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Erlandson on May 14, 2000. She is also preceded in death by her brothers: Daniel, Roy, Howard and Jim Curry. Arlene is survived by her daughters, Janet Erlandson; Debra Erlandson and a sister, Evelyn (David) Minniear.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Arlene's life will follow at 2 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
