Arlyn Richard Ubben

February 11, 1933 — September 2, 2014

Arlyn R. Ubben, 81, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Arlyn was born February 11, 1933 to the late Mahlon and Caroline Ubben in Marysville, Kansas. He graduated from Beattie High School in 1951 and continued his education at Central Technical Institute where he earned his Second Class Radio License. Arlyn went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad repairing two way radios and other communications equipment. He started wiring houses, before starting his own home building and land development business, Ubben Construction Co., in 1965. Arlyn also completed numerous commercial construction projects throughout his career. Later in life Arlyn owned and managed numerous rental properties in Johnson County. He was a hard worker and gained the respect of all who knew him. Arlyn was dedicated to his family, and loved to help them on any projects they had around the house. He enjoyed working and was a devoted brother, father and husband.

Arlyn served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 327 and the Beattie Masonic Lodge. Arlyn greatly enjoyed hunting with one of his best friends, Ronnie Pflumm, and nephew Greg Ubben.

He leaves behind Dixie Ubben; two daughters, Dorothy G. Ubben; Lynn Ann Ubben; a sister, Iola Albright; five brothers, Ivan Ubben and wife Ardith; Gary Ubben and wife Karen; Wendell Ubben and wife Connie; David Ubben and wife Cindi; and Keith Ubben and wife Amy; and granddog Shadow.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Lenexa.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Arlyn's honor to the Kansas City Hospice House & Palliative Care, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145; or to Great Plains SPCA, 5428 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66204.
