Barbara E. Smith

Barbara E. Smith, 78, passed away Thursday, March 26, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Barbara was born July 28, 1930 to the late R. Dwight and Cecelia Weinland in Colby, Kansas. Barbara moved to the Kansas City area at the age of fourteen and attended Wyandotte High School. On July 11, 1947 she married James "J.O." Smith in Olathe, Kansas. Barbara was employed as an Assignment Clerk with Southwestern Bell telephone and retired in 1986. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers, and the VFW Auxilliary #846.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, James; two daughters, Sharon L. Smith, Salt Lake City, Utah and Colleen Truelsen and husband Gary, Vallejo, California; a son, Michael D. Smith and wife Linda, Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Pius X Catholic Chuch, 5500 Woodson, Mission, KS 66202.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 30 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
