Barbara Baier Nicks passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 5, 2014 in Shawnee, KS.
Barbara was born on June 21, 1925 to Delia Caenen Baier and Michael J. Baier. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended both the grade school and high school. She lived her entire life in Shawnee, KS. She was an active member of St. Joseph Ladies Guild and the Resurrection Choir. Where ever there was a need; church, family, school, neighborhood, Barbara always pitched in.
She married her high school sweetheart, William H. Nicks on October 6, 1945. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in a month. She was a devoted wife and mother to eight children, all who were with her in her final days.
Barbara joins her parents, her brother Michael, her sister Betty Charlton, her daughter-in-law Becky Nicks, and her great grandson Lucas in Heaven.
Barbara is survived by her husband Bill, and their eight children, Anne Crisp, Concord, CA; Ellen Rajdl-Villella (Vinny), Wading River, NY; Bill Nicks, Jr. (Marci), Lenexa, KS; Daniel Nicks, Shawnee, KS; Susan Bishop (Jim), Bonner Springs, KS; Patti Beaver (Joel), Olathe, KS; David Nicks (Tami), Leavenworth, KS; Mary Jane Male (Bill), Shawnee, KS; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Anne Baier, Kansas City, MO, brother-in-law, Ben Nicks, Shawnee, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara took great joy from her family and leaves her family and friends with many wonderful memories.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sweet Life at Rosehill for the wonderful care Barbara received.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m., Monday at the church where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church in memory of Barbara.
