Barbara Jean Yardley, of Raymore, MO passed away May 21st, 2017 at Belton Regional Medical Center. She was 84. Barbara was the only daughter born to Homer Wilkin and Grayce Darby Wilkin Brant. She was born on March 20, 1933 in Callao, MO. She was predeceased by her parents, two younger brothers and her husband, James C. Yardley. He passed away October 8, 2011 after being married 60 years. She is survived by her son, Douglas (Alaina) Yardley of Kansas City, Kansas; her daughter, Linnea (Rick) McGuire of Mission, Kansas; her youngest brother, Lawrence (Dee) Wilkin of Buda, TX. She is also survived by four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara graduated from Bevier High School, Bevier, MO in 1951. She then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo where she met her husband on a blind date. He was home on leave from the Army and told everyone that he was going to marry her because she was going to support him. It worked because they were married three weeks later. She later joined him in California and worked on post and as the warden's secretary at Army Disciplinary Barracks. After his discharge they returned to Kansas City and she went to work for Hallmark Cards. After the children were born, she worked as a partner with her husband in the television repair business. She eventually went to work for the Valley View School district before they merged into the Shawnee Mission School District. She then went to work for the city of Shawnee and worked her way up to the City Clerk of Shawnee. She was active with the Chamber of Commerce, Shawnee Historical Society, and was named both Citizen of the Year and the Employee of the Year. After retirement, she and her husband moved to the Lake of the Ozarks and became "Winter Texans". In between they traveled all over the United States, Canada and Mexico. She loved animals and they were well-traveled as well. She had become a member of the Baptist Church as a teenager and love the Lord. She has been an officer and volunteer in many churches as well as active in the Stonecroft Ministries. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore. She donated her body to the University of Kansas Hospital for cancer research.
