Bette Gene Lauzon

Bette Gene (Ferguson Harmon) Lauzon, 89, passed away peacefully May 12, 2023, at her son Tim Harmon’s home in Overland Park, KS (after a brief illness). Pastor Adam Bueltel, Mission Road Bible Church in Prairie Village, KS officiated at the graveside service on May 19, 2023.

Bette was born Sunday, December 17, 1933 in Wellston, OK. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952 and then went on to graduated from the University of Washington (in December 1975 with a BA) in Communications/Journalism. Bette worked as an  Auditor at Washington Public Power Supply System, Boeing and Union Carbide.

Over her life, Bette was a leader in 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Campfire. She was named Volunteer of the Year for a local Humane Society, and volunteered at the food bank and thrift shop, was a photographer for her neighborhood community newsletter, and member of Sunshine Club. She also attended Mission Bible Church and the Ladies Bible Study.

Bette enjoyed quilting, skiing, rooting for her beloved UW Huskies, playing bridge, Bunko and pinochle, photography, playing the guitar, keeping in touch with friends she knew throughout the U.S., and travel.

Bette is survived by her daughter Jayne Matthews, son Tim Harmon (Janet), daughter Dianne Owens (Barcley), son Rick Lauzon (Anne), daughter Suzi Lauzon, nine grandchildren Roy Matthews IV (Melissa), Bryan Matthews, (Ann), Quentin Harmon (Jessica), Sean Harmon( Mindy), Forrest Harmon (Sashka), Holly Harmon, Ben Harmon, Jason Owens, Jamison Owens, and eight great grandchildren Knox, MacKenzie, Summer, Wes, Laura Jean, Kate, Carter, and Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her parents Coy Otto Ferguson and the former Gladys Ethel Carsten, her son Michael Harmon, her brothers Bob Ferguson, Bill Ferguson, sisters Mary Barger, Barbara James, son-in-law Roy Matthews III, and husband Richard Lauzon.
