Betty Ruth Cansler

July 28, 1925 — April 15, 2017

Betty Ruth Cansler, 91, of Shawnee, KS passed away April 15, 2017 surrounded by her children.

Betty was born July 28, 1925 in Kansas City, MO to Conn and Stella Blythe. From an early age, she had a love for music and dance, eventually playing the piano for her church and various other events and teaching and performing tap dance. Her dance talent led her to New York City where she won first place on a major television talent show.   The things that brought Betty the most joy were her faith and family. Betty was an active member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church for 65 years. She was unwavering in her faith and served her church in numerous capacities, which cultivated many lifelong friendships. Betty was married to the love of her life, Finis, for 67 years until his passing in 2009. She nurtured the people around her with love and food. The garden in her yard was a source of pride for her, and she delighted in sharing both fresh and canned produce from it with family, friends and neighbors.   Family meant everything to Betty. Betty had 8 grandchildren, Jeff, Cari, Julie, Tim, Danny, Robin, Jason, and Josh. She loved to have them with her, playing with them, caring for them and showing them the same kind of concern she had for her own children. As her great-grandchildren arrived, all seventeen of them, she had the same joy for them and proudly displayed all their pictures as each new one was given to her.   She was preceded in death by her husband , Finis R. Cansler, and two daughters, Judith May and Laura Ellen. Betty is survived by her daughter, Janeth (Dennis) and her son Steven (Kim); eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
