Betty Ardene Munson Hawks

Betty Ardene Munson Hawks, 74, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

Ardene was born February 24, 1936, at her parent's country home in Emporia, Kansas. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1953. On July 18, 1959, Ardene married Donald Hawks in Emporia, Kansas. Donald preceded her in death on February 9, 1998, after 39 years of marriage.

She was an active member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.

Ardene is also preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Orpha Allen Munson and her brother, Gayle Munson. Ardene is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Abbott, a sister, Carlene Fuller, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., National Office, 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 710, Washington, DC 20036. Please designate that this donation go directly to funding the lupus research program in ‘search for a cure of lupus' in honor of a beloved mother, sister and friend Betty Ardene Hawks; or to a children's charity of your choice.

Memorial Service

A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
