Raytown

Betty Lou Hillier, affectionately known as Betty, peacefully passed away on April 16, 2025, in her beloved hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Born on August 2, 1928, also in Kansas City, she graced this world with her presence for an impressive 96 years.

A proud graduate of Westport High School in 1945, Betty went on to build a commendable career as a bookkeeper, dedicating her skills and meticulous attention to detail to Kahn, Kaufman & Lerner, and formerly to Farmers Insurance Company.

Betty was a woman of many interests and great enthusiasm. Her passion for baseball was rivaled only by her enjoyment of bowling, sewing, gardening, and solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She found joy in playing cards and games with friends and family, and cherished her travels, which took her to many parts of the United States. For many years, Betty led Girl Scouts when her daughters were growing up.

Preceded in death by her mother, Mary Wyant; her father, Lawrence Genn; and her sister, Ruth Berns (Edward), Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Linda Russell and Janice Colvin. Her grandchildren, John Russell (Bonnie), Christina Russell Galindo, Angela Sadler (Jim), and Daniel Colvin (Charlotte), will forever hold her memory dear, as will her five great-grandchildren, who brought joy to her later years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2025, at 1:00, at Little Blue Valley Church, 7119 S. Noland Road, Raytown, Missouri, to honor Betty's remarkable life and the love she shared with all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Betty’s memory to the Kansas City Hospice House, 9001 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64111.

Betty Lou Hillier’s generosity, warmth, and unyielding spirit will be remembered fondly by her family and friends, whose lives she touched so deeply throughout her long and fruitful journey. May she rest in peace.
