Betty Jean Slack

Betty Jean Slack, 88, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away October 2, 2012.

Betty was born March 18, 1924, in Wichita, Kansas, to Harry and Stella Mae Pickens. She was married to Thomas C. Slack, Jr. until his death in 1988. She lived in the Shawnee area for 62 years. Betty worked for Zarda Brothers Dairy for 17 years in the Accounting Department prior to her retirement. She was a former member of Shawnee Presbyterian Church. Her social life in her later years revolved around her family and her favorite past time, listening to the "Stranger Creek Band" at Burger King on Tuesday nights.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas Slack, and her siblings, Dorothy Lowe Kouri, Harry Pickens, and Tommy Pickens. She is survived by four daughters, Barbara (Fred) Loopstra of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Linda (Larry) Scrivner of Greeley, Colorado, Karen (Chuck) Hodil of Carlsbad, California, and Nancy Thomas of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren: Brent & Rachel Loopstra, Courtney Loopstra, Leigh Ann & Jeff James, Angela & Cory Olson, Jason Scrivner, Charlie Hodil, and Peter Hodil; and great-grandchildren, Cassady and Claudia Swan, Jack and Cole James, and Charlie and Tommy Olson. Betty also leaves behind her former neighbors and many dear friends.

A visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Saturday October 13, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with burial following the service in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
