Betty J. (Pillman) Tines of Shawnee, KS (formerly of Ballwin, MO) passed away Oct. 8 at the age of 85. Born Nov. 28, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to Richard and Clara Pillman, she earned a BS in Elementary Education from Harris Stowe Teacher's College.

Betty married Edward Tines on June 13, 1953. Betty enjoyed raising their five children and teaching kindergarten in the Parkway School District. In 1972 Betty and Ed founded the Manchester Center for Developmentally Disabled (originally Manchester Retarded Youth Center) to provide day schooling for adults with mental handicaps. Betty also volunteered for her children's schools and scout troops. She was a member of Manchester United Methodist Church for over 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; son Michael Tines; and son-in-law Brian Hintz. Survivors include daughters Susan of Gardner, KS, Debi (John) Krumme of Shawnee, KS, and Jill Hintz (Bill) Roche of Mahtomedi, MN; her son Dave (Kelly) Tines of Lenexa, KS; daughter-in-law Julie (Mark) Burns of St. Louis, MO; and her siblings, Shirley (Don) Gorris and Gene Pillman, both of Florida. Betty was a loving, active grandma to 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Community Covenant Church in Lenexa, KS. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis, MO on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m.
