Beverly June Craven

June 30, 1929 — June 6, 2019

Beverly June Craven, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center.

Bev was born on June 30, 1929 to Raleigh and Marjorie (Boyce) Burke in Holton, Kansas. While attending high school in Iola, Ks, Bev met the love of her life, Wayne Craven. They were married in 1950.  Bev attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, where she earned a teaching degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Home Economics. She would go on to teach at Shawnee Mission West in the Shawnee Mission School District.

Bev loved to travel with Wayne all over the world. They visited 6 of 7 continents and loved camping in their RV with friends and family. She and Wayne backpacked along the Continental Divide, enjoyed canoeing on many rivers throughout Colorado, Missouri and Arkansas, and visited almost all of the 50 states. After Wayne's death, Bev continued to travel near and far with friends seeing the sites in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Galapagos Islands among others. She especially liked to drive her RV and take friends to Texas in the winter months.  Bev was an avid bridge player, loved to golf, and was involved in women's auxiliaries at Asbury Methodist and Valley View Methodist churches.

Bev loved spending time with her family. She planned extensive trips for her family to Mexico, the Caribbean, France, Costa Rica, Colorado, Lake of the Ozarks, Branson and Ireland. Bev especially loved the times her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would visit.

Bev loved her family dearly and that also included her two cats, Wally and Beaver.  She loved all animals and was an avid supporter to many organizations that served to promote the welfare of dogs and cats.

Bev was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Wayne Craven. She is survived by her sons, Marc Craven (Beverly) and Kelly Craven (Janice); 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was a remarkable woman and will be missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lamar Court Assisted Living, Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center, and Kindred Hospice for the exceptional care given to Bev over the last year.

A visitation will be held on August 10th at 2:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to immediately follow at 3:00 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66018.
