Hutchinson

Beverly J. Sheldon closed the last chapter of her story in Hutchinson, Kansas, September 10, at the age of 82.

Born in Sterling, Colorado, June 28, 1942, the daughter of Rev. Arnold and Lauretta Obermeier, Beverly achieved a Bachelor's in Social Work from St. Mary of the Plains College, in Dodge City Kansas, and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Kansas. She led a life of service, first as a social worker for Head Start, in Dodge City, then as a Menninger trained clinician and play therapist for Charter Counseling Center in Lawrence, Research Psychiatric Center and St. Luke's Shawnee Mission Outpatient Clinic, before starting her private therapy practice, Sheldon and Associates, in Overland Park, Kansas. Beverly also taught graduate classes at Webster University and conducted seminars on child abuse and women's issues. She served on local and statewide Committees for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

No one benefitted more from her love and kindness, though, than her family. Many times she dropped everything to drive hundreds of miles to aid family members, all of whom, she loved fiercely. Even in her last days, she managed to smile at the sound of her grandchildren's voices. That family includes her children and their spouses Bill and Cindy Sheldon, Laurie and Rich Wrobel, and Debbie and Jim Brown; her beloved grandchildren, Katherine and Tyler Sheldon, and Tyler's spouse Alex Arceneaux, Logen Wrobel McKay, Ally and Nick Brown, and Nick's spouse Ashley, Josh Brown and his spouse Ally, and Jon Brown and his spouse Pam, and her great grandchildren Nora, Keegan, Jack, Rory, Reny and Diana. She is also survived by her brother Bill Obermeier and his spouse Michele, nephew and neice Ken Obermeier and Lara Latham.

While her story has closed, the stories told about her will go on, and her voice will remain ever-present in the hearts and minds of those who love her. The family will hold a small celebration of life at a later date.
