Bob Becker

b. June 23, 1927

Bob Becker, Mission, met his Lord Jesus on Tuesday, November 29. He was born June 23, 1927 in Nekoma, KS to William and Freda Becker. At the age of 14 his family moved to Savonburg, KS. At the age of 17, and not yet out of high school, he registered for the Navy - out of respect for three of his older brothers who had served aboard the USS Arizona. Two brothers (Marvin and Wesley) were killed on December 7, 1941. The third brother Harvey was spared as he had weekend leave on the island.

Upon returning from his duty in the Pacific, Bob finished high school in Humboldt, KS where he would meet his future wife Betty. They were married on the nationally televised Bride and Groom show in NYC on May 30, 1952. They settled in Mission, KS where they lived for over 60 years.

Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked in the printing industry for many years but the focus of his life was his family. His greatest joy came from participating in activities with his wife, children and grandchildren and other nearby relatives. He never missed a game or activity that his children participated in and he helped coach many of their teams. He served as an assistant leader of the Trinity Lutheran Boy Scout troop.

Bob also enjoyed spending time on the family farm in Savonburg, fishing, refinishing furniture and watching KU Basketball and KC Royals games on TV. In 2008, he participated in the Honor Flight trip based out of Allen County honoring WWII veterans. He was an active Grandfather, taking every opportunity to participate in his grandchildren's lives.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years Betty, of the home, son Robert (Ann), Nazareth PA; daughter Debbie (John) Hassed, Overland Park; and grandchildren, Jon & Melissa Becker and Nate Hassed; sister Mary Pollock (Upland CA), Brother-in-laws Steve (Cecelia) Orcutt, Iola; and Melvin Baker, Humboldt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Walter, Harvey, Marvin and Wesley and sister Theresa Blattner.
