Bonnie Lee Shaw, 95, passed away on October 5, 2022. She was born to James and Audie Rutledge on October 24, 1926 in Long Creek Township, Arkansas. She graduated from high school and attended secretarial school. During World War II, she assisted war efforts with Pratt & Whitney and was a proud member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. She also worked for the State of Kansas and for several law offices. Bonnie was a member of the Old Mission United Methodist Church in Fairway, KS for 48 years.
Bonnie was a kind soul and everyone who met her loved her. Bonnie enjoyed spending time in the garden and playing bridge. She loved animals, especially cats. Bonnie enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the University of Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs. Bonnie always looked her very best, even going as far as making sure her hair looked good in the Emergency Room.
Bonnie didn’t have children of her own, but treated her nieces and nephews like they were hers, and was very involved in their lives. She was very generous and thoughtful to family members, always remembering birthdays and anniversaries. Presents to family members were always unique with detailed wrapping.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Shaw; her parents; siblings Marty Yocum, Wanda Gibson, and a young sister Georgia Faye Yocum. She is survived by a sister-in-law Darlene Yocum, her niece Pam Eighmey (Greg), nephew Marty Gibson (Susan), nephew Danny Gibson, niece Holly King (Russ), nephew Jim Yocum (Melissa); and many other family members and friends.
Services will be held at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. A visitation will be from 9-10 am, with service to start at 10 am. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, KS next to her husband, James, following the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
