Bonnie Faye Lindsey Spilker

d. July 15, 2013

Bonnie was born to Marion and Amelia Lindsey near Winnsboro, Texas, the seventh of 8 siblings. She graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1939 and then trained in business school for a career as a secretary. She married William G. Spilker on February 28, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and subsequently bore three sons, William L., Thomas R., and James M. Spilker. In 1959 she moved with her family to Overland Park, Kansas, and resided in the same home from that year until the month of her passing.

Bonnie was a wonderful and dedicated wife and mother, talented cook and crafts person, gracious and generous friend to many, and a very hard-working homemaker and executive secretary who made it possible for her sons to obtain college educations and post-graduate degrees. She was also a very spiritual person who was a long-time member of Overland Park Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Bonnie are her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill (Vicky) of Alba, Texas, Tom (Linda) of Monrovia, California, and Jim (Shara) of Kansas City, Missouri, a younger brother Hugh Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; grandchildren Jennifer W., Brian, Kristin, Scott, Megan, Amy, Jennifer H. and Jessica; great-grandchildren Brooks, Callaway, Oliver, Elizabeth, Kate, Isabella and Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceasing Bonnie were her six older siblings, Beatrice, Bertha, Herbert, Herschel, Hillary, and Hastings, and her devoted husband of more than 65 years, William G. Spilker, who passed away July 15, 2013.

While mourning her passing, her family and friends will carry Bonnie in our hearts for many years to come and are comforted by the knowledge that she has gone to greener pastures.

A graveside service and celebration of her life will be conducted by the Rev. Jason Carle on August 20, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery at 75th Street and Antioch in Merriam.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, and in keeping with her wishes, those wishing to commemorate Bonnie’s passing make a contribution to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care or a charity of their choice.
