Bryan Boyd Bokenkroger

September 28, 1946 — June 4, 2017

Bryan was born on Sept. 28, 1946, in Denver, CO, the third child, and first son, born to William and Imogene Bokenkroger. He spent the majority of his childhood in Wyoming, where he attended Sheridan High School. Bryan loved to be outdoors, hunting and fishing with his dad or playing football and baseball with his friends. His lifelong love of dogs began with two English bulldogs - Boo and Duke - both of whom he befriended as a boy.

Post-graduation, Bryan served in the Army, but contracted a kidney disease while stationed in Germany. He spent nine months in an Army hospital before being medically discharged in 1968.  He then attended the University of Denver where he achieved a bachelor's degree in accounting and financial management. He met his wife, Marilynn, at DU, and the two moved to Los Angeles, CA, in 1973.  While there, Bryan turned his love of cars into a love for racing, and began drag racing on NHRA-sanctioned tracks.  They welcomed their first child, Matthew, in 1975. Shortly thereafter, Bryan and Marilynn moved to Kansas City to be closer to family. They welcomed daughter, Laura, in 1977.

After stepping away from an accounting position that required long hours away from his family, Bryan spent the majority of his professional career in sales. He worked for several companies throughout his three decades in the tire industry, enjoying a loyal customer base who often followed him from company to company.

Bryan was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He proudly served as Scout Master for 10 years. Under his guidance, more boys achieved Eagle Scout than under any leader before him. Among them was his son Matthew, who passed the love of scouting on to his son, Brett, who earned his Eagle in 2014.

Bryan's greatest joy was family.  He loved watching his grandchildren in their many activities. He was an animal lover who never met a dog he didn't adore.

Bryan was preceded in death by his wife, Marilynn on June 4, 2017, and beloved dogs, Boo, Duke, Pax, Lady, Prince, Pax2, Sparky, Rusty, Rocky and Mickey. Survivors include beloved dog, KC; his children, Matthew (Courtney) Bokenkroger, Laura (Grant) Gorr; sisters, Lu Ann Nauman and Ruth Dahlberg; grandchildren, Brett, Cali, Lucy, Molly, Grace, Mackenzie, Alex and Kiley.

A Rosary will be on Thursday, June 29th at 4:30 p.m. with a visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. at Amos Family Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS.
