Buell Livingston Hoyt, 82, of Overland Park, KS passed away Tuesday January 5, 2021 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Buell who was often called "B.L." by those closest to him was born March 28, 1938 in Chillicothe, Missouri. He grew up in Chillicothe and graduated from high school there in 1960. Following high school, he graduated from Missouri Valley College and pursued a career in business and banking. He was proud to be part of the Army reserves following college. Mr. Hoyt worked at several bank locations throughout his career, retiring from Bank of America in 1998.
Buell is survived by his wife, Sandy; his two daughters, Angela Garvey; Courtney Loudon and husband Brad; and his grandchildren Hayden Garvey and wife Brittney; McKenna Garvey, Payton Loudon and Presley Loudon. He is also survived by his sister Linda Duffy, brother-in-law David Duffy and niece Diana Duffy Thompson.
Buell was a fun-loving man who enjoyed anything sports related, playing basketball, baseball, and football in his youth and early adult days. He spent years going to every home game to cheer on the Missouri Tigers in football and basketball. Sports banter between friends and family was one of his favorite things. Even more than playing or watching the pro teams what he absolutely loved the most was cheering on his grandkid's sports teams over the years. He never missed a game and always looked forward to being there, he truly was their biggest fan! He always supported his family through acts of service and being present to support whatever they were involved in.
Buell had a great sense of humor and was well known for teasing those he cared about. He did not know a stranger and was often asked why he did not run for mayor because when he was out and about there was never a time he did not run into someone he knew. As a friendly outgoing people person if you met Buell even once then you had a friend forever.
During his retirement Buell was an active volunteer in several capacities. His long-term volunteer roles include driving for Meals On Wheels for 18 years and serving in several volunteer roles for 17 years at Overland Park Regional Hospital. Buell also belonged to Valley View Optimist Club for numerous years where he placed much of his time and priority on efforts that benefited unprivileged youth.
Buell will be remembered for so many positive things as he was kind and generous to everyone but his love for his family were at the heart of Buell (aka: Dad and Gramps). He is now resting well with the Lord in Heaven which provides peace for his family. In lieu of flowers please do a random act of kindness in Buell's name and memory.
