Buford C. Daffron, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Kansas City Hospice House. Born in Maysville, Missouri to Harvey and Nora, he grew up on a farm with his older brother Warren. A veteran of WWII, Bud, was drafted into the army at 18 and did his basic training at Camp Hulen in Texas. He served as a member of the 555th Antiaircraft Battalion. Serving most of his time in Europe, he spent 195 consecutive days in front line combat. Returning from the war, he worked as a meat inspector with the USDA for 30 years. Upon retiring, he started a second career, working at the Melbourne Country Club's "Halfway House," where he spent almost 20 years enjoying serving members, laughter and friendship. Married to Phil in 1947, they shared trips to Europe, Army Reunions, South Padre Island and many trips to see their grandchildren. He has a daughter, Jean Marie, who lives in Atlanta, GA. Jeannie and her husband, Gene Suender gave Bud three grandchildren, Jay, Jeff and Jared. Bud was an active member at American Legion Dwight Cowles Post 370 and the Overland Park VFW, where he made countless friends, served in a variety of roles and continued to live out his love for his country.
Funeral Service will be held at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. and the service will immediately follow; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends are invited to a luncheon at the American Legion, 7500 West 75th St. Overland Park.
