Calen Michael Young

Calen Michael Young, 34, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on August 8, 2022. He was born September 29, 1987, in Kansas City, KS, to Dale and Karel Young. Calen grew up in Lenexa, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest high school in 2006. He then went on to study at Kansas State University and graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Calen was a member of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity where he enjoyed cooking during tailgates, attending football games and spending time with his friends. He even served as the fraternity chef for a period when the current chef resigned.

While working for the Kansas State University food services, he received the International Gold and Silver Plate Society award and went on to work as a restaurant manager after college. Calen quickly moved up in the restaurant business and became a General Manager in Wichita, KS as well as Norman, OK.  He then moved to Kansas City and continued to work in the restaurant business.

Calen loved spending time with his dogs as well as his family. He enjoyed being fun ‘Uncle Calen’ and spoiling his niece and nephews. Owning the latest and greatest electronic gadgets and modern technology was always one of his favorite interests. He went to great efforts to automate his home with the most premium electronic systems and valued nice cars with all the most current accessories.  Calen was a Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan and enjoyed wearing their apparel.

He is survived by his parents, Dale and Karel Young, siblings Matt (Stephanie) Young of Lenexa, KS, Lauren (David) Hart of Andover, KS, niece Gwyneth Young, nephews Graysen Young, Landon Hart, Lucas Hart, Logan Hart, grandmother Peggy Young, and his beloved dogs Nalah and Tanner. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom Ryan, Mary Ryan and Neil Young.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS. Visitation will be held from 4:00-5:00 pm with a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Great Plains SPCA Pet Adoption Center (5424 Antioch Dr. Merriam, KS 66202), or Midwest Recovery Centers (13340 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145).
