Cameron Evans

January 9, 1940 — August 31, 2019

Cameron Evans, 79, of Overland Park, KS passed to life eternal on August 31, 2019 with family by his side.

Cameron was born January 9, 1940 in Stillwater, OK, to Floyd and Nova (England) Evans. He was a graduate of Norman, Oklahoma High School and of the University of Oklahoma. Cameron retired after spending his entire career as a Systems Analyst for Hallmark Cards. Since 1963 he has been an active member and elder at Countryside Christian. He married his college sweetheart Bettina Owens on August 25, 1962.

Cameron was preceded in death by his parents, half-sister, Lorraine Hall, half-brothers Bill Cagley and Harry Cagley   He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bettina; daughter Cynthia Louise Evans; son Owen Cameron Evans and wife Sandra, three grandchildren, Rachel, Luke and James; brother Clovis Evans and wife Pat of Spartanburg, SC, sister Trelma Sullivan and husband Gene of Ponca City, OK,  brother-in-law Charles Owens and wife Barbara of Oklahoma City, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.

He loved family gatherings, conversation, games, solving puzzles, mystery stories, worldwide travel, carpentry and woodworking of all kinds.  He could repair anything and build everything.  Life contained no boredom for him and he eagerly embraced each day.  Cameron's love of islands was revealed through multiple visits to Hawaii, Fiji, and Tahiti and his wardrobe of tropical shirts and straw hats.

All areas of his church community were of interest and he held several board positions at Countryside having joined in 1963.  For many years he was a loved teacher of children using Worship and Wonder guidelines.  He was a member of the Kansas City Athenaeum.

His employment at Hallmark Cards for his entire career was a source of pride, afforded many friendships and lead to a retired men's breakfast group enjoyed weekly.  Cameron and Bettina delighted in the friendships of life-long monthly dinner group.

In this time of loss his family is comforted by the same faith in Christ that led him through his lifetime.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am, Friday, September 6, 2019, followed by an 11 am funeral service and luncheon at Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Ave. Mission, KS. Burial immediately following at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
