Carl J. Horvatin

September 28, 1920 — June 3, 2015

Carl J. Horvatin, 94, was born to Mary Louise Bosilejvac and Joseph M. Horvatin, September 28, 1920, in Kansas City, Kansas on Strawberry Hill. He passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

He served his country in WWII as a mechanic in the Army working on bomber planes off the islands of Hawaii.

Returning home to his parent's farm in northern Missouri, he lived and farmed there until he met the love of his life, a widow, Frances Williams Hart, at a dance. They married in 1963 and resided in Shawnee, Kansas. Frances had four children; she and Carl had a daughter together. Carl worked in construction until his retirement in 1987.

He was a kind man with a big heart and a big smile and loved dancing! Wherever there was a waltz, a pretty smile and shot of Whiskey you could find him. He had a real love of life. Carl was much beloved by all his children!

Carl is survived by step-children, Jeannie Drake (Chuck), George W. Hart (Sharon), Clayton E. Hart (Beth), Ann Hart, and daughter Mary Frances Horvatin; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be at Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive Shawnee, KS Friday, June 5 from 5-7 pm. A Graveside Service will be at noon on Saturday June 6th at Mt Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Kansas City, KS.

Burial is at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Kansas City KS alongside his parents, two brothers, Nick Horvatin and Joseph Horvatin, Jr., and his wife.
