Carl Emil Vandeputte, 93, of Shawnee, KS passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Carl was born June 10, 1924 to the late Michael and Cecelia Vandeputte and was a life long resident of Shawnee, Kansas. Carl enlisted in the US Army after graduating from Shawnee Mission North high school in 1942. While in the Army, Carl served in Hawaii as a Radar Operator. After his service, he went to work for the United States Postal Service as an Accountant. He retired after 38 years of service in 1981. On August 17, 1974 Carl married Judy Hartung. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband, always making his family his first priority. Carl coached his children and grandchildren's baseball and softball teams for many years in the Shawnee community. He was an excellent storyteller and would spend hours entertaining his grandchildren and great grandchildren with stories of his military service, Belgium heritage and childhood as the son of Shawnee's only town cobbler/shoe maker.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy; his children, Linda Stainbrook and husband Robert Boulware; Thomas Vandeputte and wife Karen; Rick Vandeputte and wife Christie; Donna Bennett and husband Marty Streit; his step children, David Hartung; Sherry Heart; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Carl is preceded in death by his brother, Joe Vandeputte and grandson Chance Bennett.
Visitation will be 10-11 am Tuesday, February 13 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Carl's life will follow at 11 am at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
