Carlene Louise Kramer

March 3, 1934 — August 30, 2021

I was born in Overbrook, Kansas on March 3, 1934, the first child of Sallie Woodring and Barlow Johnson. Brother, Walt, and sister, Mary, soon joined our family. After graduating from Overbrook Rural HS in 1952, I worked as an assistant to orthodontists, Doctors McComb and Casper in Topeka, Kansas.

I left Kansas in December of 1954 to marry Dale Kramer (ORHS class of 1949), where he was stationed, in England. We were married on Christmas Day, 1954 at the Air Force Base in Buttonwood, England. After Dale left the service, we moved to Norman, Oklahoma where he attended Oklahoma University. Our first daughter, Debbie, was born in Norman.

In 1960, after Dale’s graduation from OU, we moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he was employed by Bendix Corporation until his retirement. Our second daughter, Kim, was born in Kansas City.

After I took up painting as a hobby, we spent many weekends at Art and Craft shows selling my work.
Following Dale’s retirement in 1986, we traveled much of the year, visiting wildlife reserves and spending winters in Corpus Christi, TX. Dale died in May 1997.

Yardwork, water aerobics, traveling, visiting the grandkids (and great grandkids) and supporting their activities kept me busy over the years. I also joined a (widow’s) support group and made many good friends there. We took many wonderful trips together, including traveling to France and Alaska.

On August 30, 2021, Carlene left this earth to join Dale for eternity.
Carlene was predeceased by her husband, Dale, and parents, Sallie and Carl Johnson.
She is survived by daughters, Debbie (Ed) Reasoner and Kim (Steve) Brightwell; grandchildren, Deidra (Kevin) Hunn, Brad (Kodi) Reasoner, Matt Brightwell and Erin (Cory) Mossberger; great grandchildren, Brendan, Evelyn, Parker, Brooke and Dean; brother, Walt (Lou) Johnson; sister, Mary and many good friends and neighbors.
