Carlos Manso, 78, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 18, 2024.
Carlos Manso was born in Madrid, Spain, on February 5, 1946. He had a strong faith at a young age and studied at the seminary of Madrid from age eight until 19.
While attending a student-sponsored amateur bullfight in 1970, Carlos met his wife, Martha, who was in Spain for her junior year abroad. After graduating from college, Martha returned to Spain to work and be close to Carlos.
In December 1974, they decided to return to the United States over Christmas to be married in Liberty, MO. In 1976, Carlos and Martha moved permanently to the Kansas City area. Carlos attended trade school to be trained as a pressman. Cookbook Publishers employed him until the business moved to Sedalia. He then became an employee in the printing department at JCCC for 21 years before retiring in 2012.
Carlos enjoyed teaching his sons activities such as riding their bicycles, playing baseball (despite never having played the sport himself), and playing tennis. He encouraged them to pursue their talents. He was so proud of their achievements and was their biggest fan.
Despite maintaining a private lifestyle, Carlos was sociable and always had friendly and thoughtful conversations. He is remembered as a sweet, charming, and gentle spirit. Carlos was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2001, and it progressed slowly over the years. He was later diagnosed and overcame cancer. Carlos was respected and admired by family and his doctors for his resilience and positive attitude. He never complained or became frustrated with his circumstances.
Carlos looked forward to visiting his family in Spain as often as possible. Carlos loved soccer, especially his team, Real Madrid. In retirement, he enjoyed tinkering around with small home improvement projects.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Piedad Martin Gonzales and Virgilio Manso Cacho. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Martha, two sons, Carlos Alberto (Susana) and Alejandro (Katie), and four granddaughters: Nora Taylor, Annabelle, Eliana, and Sofia. He is also survived by his two sisters, Delia and Socorro, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am, at Visitation Catholic Church 5141 Main St., Kansas City, Missouri 64112, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am. Carlos will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at 1:15 pm on Friday.
