Carol Lee Hackleman was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on April 23, 2021, at age 82. She was the first child born to John and Mae Cortright on August 20, 1938. Carol loved learning and earned her bachelor’s degree from Kansas University. In 1991, Carol traveled to Colorado where she met and married the love of her life, Thomas Hackleman, who preceded her in death in November 2014. Together, she and Tom cherished an active and happy life of cattle ranching in North Park, Colorado, and Carol considered those years the best of her life.
Carol was known far and wide for her excellent cookery skills—her pies were the greatest—and for her talent as a wonderful seamstress. She was also involved in many supportive institutions within the North Park area, to include Woman’s Club and Cattle Women, having served as president of both organizations. She was active in the Friends of the Library and in the North Park Fair where many of her pies were donated and greatly enjoyed. She also worked as postmistress of the Cowdrey Post Office. She most enjoyed the many happy occasions with family and friends around a hearty meal.
At her passing, Carol leaves behind two children, Tambria Kelley; her children, Matthew (Brienne), Bradford (Lucinda), and Amy (Adam); and Timothy Kelley; his children, Kristalynne (Marc), Sean, Cherese, and Paul; having been preceded in death by her eldest child, Pamela. She had twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Seay; and her three brothers, Jon “Terry” Cortright, Thomas Cortright, and Bret Cortright; having been preceded in death by her brother, Scott Cortright.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on June 12, 2021, at the North Park Community Church, 509 Mckinley Drive, Walden, Colorado.
