Carol Ann Musgrave

March 3, 1939 — August 5, 2019

Carol Ann Musgrave (Clark) passed peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2019 from complications of cancer as an in-home hospice patient surrounded by Cleon and Gary. She battled cancer with the ferocity familiar for all that knew Carol.

Carol was born March 3, 1939 in Mitchell, South Dakota.  She grew up in her beloved Springfield, South Dakota and graduated from Springfield High School in 1957 with classmates that remained lifelong friends.  Carol graduated from Baker University in 1961 and again remained very close with many classmates during her life. While teaching, she persevered and earned a Master's Degree from Webster University furthering her professional credentials.  She was a career teacher, primarily at Brookridge Elementary where she nurtured relationships with colleagues and pupils alike.

Carol was a member of Valley View United Methodist Church which is now Church of the Resurrection Overland Park Campus. She was a proud member of the Tri Delta and Tri Psi sororities which enriched her life tremendously through sisterhood.

Her devotion to family and friends was her hallmark and the central focus of her life.  She was the absolute best wife, mother, doting grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  Loving concern for her family and friends with cards, letters, stickers, confetti, phone calls, and visits were her true joy in life.

Carol was an avid sports fan and paid particularly close attention to the Chiefs, Royals and Kansas Jayhawks.  The "Martyball" era for the Chiefs was particularly enthralling especially when Marty greeted her at the front door when she arrived at a barbeque gathering the Schottenheimer's graciously hosted at their home. The Roy Williams era at Kansas takes particular significance when she got to meet Roy at KCI and noticed how short he is compared to his players.  She also loved Bill Self's toughness and the relentless Royals of 2014 and 2015.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Beatrice who adopted her at birth and raised a real tiger of a woman; her daughter Shari Pate and granddaughter Tressa Canaday.

She is survived by her loving husband Cleon Musgrave whom she married July 22, 1995 in her cherished South Dakota; her son Gary Hanson and his companion Bea Wake; daughters Kenna (Jeremy) Fries and Wendy (Timothy) Canaday; grandchildren Rebecca and Eric Hanson; Shari's children Ashton (Chris) Canavan, Aaron Pate, Aspen Newsome; Tyler and Tia Canaday and Jackson Fries; and great grandchildren Cassidy and Cadence Canavan.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m., on Saturday, August 24 with services following at 2 p.m.
