Carolyn “Carrie” Jenkins

June 8, 1941 — July 20, 2015

Carolyn I. “Carrie” Jenkins, 74, returned to her heavenly home on July 20th, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family, friends, and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Carolyn was born to Elmo and Janet Jenkins, a cabinetmaker and a homemaker respectively, in Kansas City, Missouri on June 8, 1941. She is a graduate of Northeast High School and graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia. She received her Library Science Degree from Emporia State University and accepted a position as a librarian at Hocker Grove Middle School and Shawnee Mission West High School. Except for the three years she took care of her mother she lived most of her adult life in Overland Park. Carolyn "Carrie" was very active in her church and many various groups.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Evan. Carolyn was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by two sisters, Katherine Sue (Jerry) Walters and Nancy Kerr; her two nephews, Mark Walters and Chuck Kerr; her two nieces, Karen Fitzsimmons and April Nesbitt; her six great-nephews, Henry and Harrison Walters, Steven Archer, Jimmy Russell, and Daniel and Boaz Fitzsimmons; and her great-nieces, Sydney Walters, Charli Archer, Ariel, Phoebe, and Chloe Fitzsimmons.

Services

A Celebration of Carolyn's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Unity Church of Overland Park located at 10300 Antioch Road with a reception to follow. A private family service will be held at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.

Contributions

She requested that a love offering in her name be given to the church in lieu of flowers.

She was a lifelong friend of everyone she met and will be dearly missed by many, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace.
