Catherine (Simmons) Wheat, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was originally from Rulo, Nebraska, but was a long time resident of Shawnee, Kansas. She is survived by her sister Fran and brother in law Walter Sedlik; daughter, Cindy Dyson and son in law, Steve Dyson, sons Phillip Wheat and daughter in law Diane, Daniel Wheat and daughter in law Connie, and David Wheat and daughter in law Melva. Grandchildren are Jason Wheat, Shawn Wheat, Stephanie Dyson Elms, Jacob Wheat, Maurice Wheat, Marcus Wheat, Megan Wheat, Melissa Stifter, Mary Kate Cotton, Tiffany Wheat, Daniel-Paul Wheat and Jonathon Wheat, their spouses, many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Pearl Simmons, her husband, Jay Wheat, her sons Timothy and Matthew Wheat, granddaughter Janet Wheat, and grandson in law, Joseph Stifter. Catherine was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and greatly enjoyed her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent most of her working life as a nurse, but enjoyed traveling around the US with her husband, Jay, once they retired.

Visitation and Mass

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 am Monday, September 26th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation with burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
