Catherine D. Zarda

Catherine D. Zarda, age 97, passed away at Trinity Nursing and Rehab Center on Sunday, February 16th, 2014. Catherine was born on April 17, 1916 in Merriam, Kansas to Walter and Etta Bartberger. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers. She was married to Robert M. Zarda, who preceded her in death in 1992. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, KS and a lifelong resident of Shawnee, KS, living independently by herself after the death of her husband until she moved into an assisted living facility in Overland Park, KS two years ago. She is survived by a daughter, F. Louise Millett of Overland Park, KS and a son, Edward Zarda and his wife, Carol, of Shawnee, KS. Other survivors include six grand-children, 13 great grandchildren and one great, great-granddaughter. Catherine, affectionately called Ma by all of her family, would have been 98 years old in April…..she was a wonderful homemaker and loved to cook and bake. At Christmas time you could find her spending many hours in the kitchen baking Christmas cookies and candies that she gave away to friends and family. She was an inspiration to all of her family and will be sadly missed by them.

Visitation will be 10 - 11 a.m., Wednesday at Amos Family Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society.
