Charlene Dodd Duncan

November 28, 1926 — December 3, 2015

Charlene D. Duncan, 89, of Ottawa, KS formerly of Shawnee Mission, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Charlene was born November 28, 1926 to the late Firth and Emaleigh Dodd in White Cloud, Kansas. After graduating from White Cloud High School, Charlene attended St. Joseph School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Charlene married Vibert Dewey Kitts, he preceded her in death in 1959. On July 30, 1960 she married Paul Edward Duncan, he preceded her in death after 34 years of marriage in 1994. In her younger years, Charlene dedicated her time to raising her family. She served as a Cub Scout and Bluebird Leader for many years. Later in life, Charlene earned an associate's degree in Nursing from Johnson County Community College. She worked as a Registered Nurse for the University of Kansas Medical Center in the Family Practice clinic for many years before retiring. Charlene was a volunteer at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, as well as Johnson County Community College and she served as a call screener for Call 4 Action. She enjoyed traveling to China, Russia and all throughout Europe. Charlene loved cheering on her beloved KU Jayhawks basketball team.

Charlene is preceded in death by her brother John Dodd. Charlene is survived by her brother, Charles Henry Dodd; children, Richard Kitts (Cindy); Karen Arnesman (Catherine Naden); William Duncan (Cheryl); Mary Duncan; five grandchildren, Laura Koch (Jonathon); Ryan Kitts (Kimberly); Adam Kitts (Hallie); Emaleigh Arnesman; Ashley Arnesman and 7 great grandchildren

Celebration of Life Services

A Celebration of Charlene's life will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 12th at the Amos Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 3414 SE Kentucky Ave, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
