Charles A. Aelmore

July 15, 1929 — December 31, 2010

Charles Aelmore, Shawnee, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 31, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House.

He was born on July 15, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri, to Walter and Fern Aelmore. He grew up in Galva, Kansas, and graduated from Dwight High School in Dwight, Kansas in 1947. He was in the 82nd Airborne (Army) during the Korean War.

His profession for over 40 years was an automotive mechanic. He started his own business in 1980 going to people's homes or their work location to work on their vehicles. He also added carpentry, painting and handyman work.

Charlie was an elder at Overland Park Christian Church and taught the Bible in an adult Sunday School Class and many other small groups for 40 years. He and his wife, Mary, were Stephens Ministers, went on Lay Witness Missions and were part of a Faith at Work team. He was a 700 Club prayer counselor, assistant Scout Master, and started a model airplane club for boys through the Shawnee Optimist Club.

He enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids fishing, doing woodcarving and loved to play the harmonica for other people.

Charlie married Mary Anderson in January 1957 and enjoyed 54 years together.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-mother and stillborn daughter.

Survivors include his wife Mary; son Mark & wife Debbie Aelmore; daughter Marla & husband Matthew Hund; ten grandchildren, Annie, Bethany, Stephan, Tiffie and Tia Aelmore; Tell and Megan Sanders, Mary, Gerard and Virginia Hund; stepbrother Larry Aelmore; half sister Jeanne; and many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.

Thank you to Overland Park Regional Hospital and Kansas City Hospice for their love and care and all the love and support from our church family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Overland Park Christian Church.

Visitation and Celebration of Life Service

Visitation will be from 1-2pm Friday, January 7, 2011, with a Celebration of Life Service at 2pm at Overland Park Christian Church.
