Charles Eugene Smith

March 25, 1933 — July 16, 2013

Charles Eugene Smith, 80, went home to be with the Lord July 16, 2013, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

He was born on March 25, 1933, in New Cambria, Missouri, to the late Frank and Rosa (Craigg) Smith. He fought a brief and courageous battle with cancer in his colon and liver.

Charles, the youngest of five brothers, was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton, Missouri, and had to leave early to help with the family farm. On June 4, 1961, he married Darlene Anderson in Kearney, Nebraska. Charles worked for the Whitaker Cable Corp. in North Kansas City for 33 years until it was closed. He was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church and dedicated his life to God and the Holy Bible his entire life.

Charles was very active with the Kansas City Division No. 31 Deaf Fraternal Society and served as the President, Treasurer and other positions. He enjoyed his early retirement at home making wind chimes, bird houses and gardening. Charles loved bowling league and watching sports.

Charles is survived by his sweet loving wife of 52 years, Darlene (Anderson); son, Daniel and daughter in law, Joan of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Carlisa and son in law, Charles of Richmond, Virginia; brother, Earl and wife, Juanita; two sisters in law, Irene and Sharon; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bert and wife Ida; Robert and James.

Memorial Service

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas.
