Charles A. Lightwine

Charles A. Lightwine, 86 of Shawnee, Kansas passed away May 28, 2009 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.

He was born in Buffalo, Missouri June 14,1922 to John and Elizabeth Lightwine, he had a brother Henry and step sister Mary. Charlie was a veteran of World War II and served in the Coast Guard. He retired from General Motors Fairfax and Griffin Wheel Inc. of Munice, Kansas. He spent his retired years being a” winter Texan” and spending summers at Pomme De Terre Lake fishing, boating and camping with his family. He will be missed by all that knew of him.

He is survived by his wife Betty Joyce Reed of 61 years, their three children, Pat (Ed) Flynn, of Lenexa, Kansas. Albert (Joyce) Lightwine of DeSoto, Kansas. and Alan (Sherry) Lightwine of Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren: Jennifer Gulick, Kelly Klein, Jamie Voorhies, Matthew Flynn, Ryan Flynn, Sarah Lightwine; and five great-grandchildren: Macey and Ryle Voorhies, Carter and Jillian Gulick and Kate Klein.

Memorials may be made to the VFW in memory of Charlie.

Visitation and Memorial Service

A celetration of his life will be Monday, June 1, 2009 with a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m.with a funeral service immediately after at 11:00 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. There will be a private burial service.
