Charles W. Plumlee Jr.

Charles William Plumlee, Jr., 85, was born on July 8, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles W., Sr. and Madeline Cooper Plumlee. Charles passed away on January 5, 2016. Survivors are beloved wife of 64 years, Ardyce Strong Plumlee, children, Richard L. Plumlee (Renoo), Carol Herbst, and Gayle Yeamans (Kevin), siblings Betty Bingham, Mary Lou Kohn, Kay Mehlisch, and preceded in death by brother Robert F. Plumlee and step brother, Warren Barrett, seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Rachel)Yeamans , Zach Yeamans, Erika (Andy) Tse, Brett Yeamans, Karley Herbst, Patrick Plumlee, Ryan Plumlee, and two great grandchildren Kiara and Kamden Tse, and many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Turner High School, Kansas City, Kansas in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy 1950-1954 during the Korean conflict. After discharge he attended The University of Kansas until he graduated. Following college he worked for Eastman Chemicals in Rochester, New York, then Colgate Palmolive, Kansas City, Kansas. In 1960 he joined IBM and worked as a Systems Engineer for 31 years before retiring in 1991. He was a devoted father, husband, and grandfather, putting all of himself into whatever he did. Hard work and faithfulness to family and friends were primary in his life. He had many interests and hobbies including love of the outdoors, sports; including playing baseball, gardening, and do it yourself projects such as building his own kitchen cabinets. He especially enjoyed fishing and KU basketball. He had a keen sense of humor. He was true to his values and looked up to by many.

Services

A Visitation is set for 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2016 at The Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive Shawnee, Kansas 66203. A Funeral Service is set for 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2016 also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Johnson County Memorial Gardens on Monday 10:30 AM, January 11, 2016.
