Charles A. Roult, Sr.

Charles Andrew Roult, Sr., of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on January 15, 2016, at the age of 88. Chuck was born in Cleveland to Charles Andrew and Miriam Powers Roult. He attended St. Ignatius High School in Shaker Heights and the University of Notre Dame, class of 1949.

As a teenager, Chuck served in the U.S. Army during WWII. In the Korean conflict, he was a 2nd Lieutenant with the Army Corps of Engineers. He married Martha Miller in Kansas City in 1956. Their 53 years together took them to Cleveland, St. Louis, Chicago, and Ft. Lauderdale, but most were spent in Kanas City, where they raised their five children.

Chuck co-founded Great Western Automatic Sprinkler Company, Protection Sprinkler Company, and the Fabrication and Supply Company. He was a lifetime member of both the National Fire Protection Association and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. For the latter, he served as president of the local chapter. He earned his Registered Fire Protection Engineer certification.

For recreation, Chuck enjoyed playing tennis, traveling with Martha, walking the beach in Florida, and rooting on the Fighting Irish. One would know Chuck was in the room by his hearty laugh. His devotion to his God, country, and family were the cornerstones of his life.

Chuck was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, and served as Grand Knight. He was active in the Serra Club. Chuck served on the board of the Honorary Directors of Rockhurst University and was Chairman of the board of Leawood Country Club. He joined Martha in support of her alma mater, University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth.

Chuck is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Maureen Roult and Raymond Caron, Kathleen and Paul Marx, Helen and Stephen Bryce, and Jennie and Shaun Cronin; his son, Charles Jr.; his grandchildren Stephen, Joseph, and James Marx; Madeleine, Daniel, and Nathaniel Bryce; Mary and Brigid Cronin; and Vincent and Vanessa Roult; his cousins James and William Bourne, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; infant granddaughter Colleen Barron; parents; and sister, Jane Dennis.

Services will be held at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas on Saturday, January 23. The Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m., followed by visitation, then the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will be served immediately following Mass. Private inurnment.

The Family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Curé of Ars Catholic Church, or the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas.
