Charles was a loving man of God. He accepted Christ at a very young age. He was baptized by his father, who pastored Eastside New Hope Baptist Church. As time went by, Charles felt a calling to become licensed to minister God’s Word. He taught Sunday school, served in several men’s ministries and volunteered wherever he could assist. Although he began his service at Eastside, he also served in the ministry at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church and Metropolitan Church of God in Detroit, Michigan. After returning to Kansas in 2016, Charles and Deborah became members of Antioch Church in Overland Park, Kansas.
Charles had a very loving personality. He was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who never met a stranger. If you wanted to talk about The Royals, Chiefs, tennis, cars, whatever, he was ready. Whether in church, at the grocery store, at work, the mall, the library, Charles was ready to talk.
He was the father of five beautiful girls: Nicole, Teresa, Michelle, Margeaux, Cheterria and one son Charles Stephens Jr. (deceased at birth). With such a loving father, his five daughters knew they could depend on him to demonstrate God’s love, give encouragement and support…as well as shower them with pizza, pop, cookies and candy.
Charles and Deborah would have celebrated 44 years of marriage on September 17, 2021. Their marriage was blessed with much love and laughter. He was the best husband and father, a Man of God’s Word providing love and protection.
