Charles S. Viscek, 84, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away in his home Tuesday, January 15, 2013.
He was born December 30, 1928, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Frank and Mary (Fugina) Viscek. He was a 1946 graduate of Maur Hill High School in Atchison, Kansas. On June 26, 1954, Charles was united in marriage to Mary Alice VanLerberg in Shawnee, Kansas.
In 1951 Charles served in the US Army and in 1955 he opened Van's Department Store and car wash in Merriam, Kansas, which he owned and operated until 1980. Charles was a great business man and was a shareholder in a chain of hotels and a major stockholder and owner of Citizens State Bank. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Alice, of the home; son Charlie Viscek (Trish); daughters Madeline Battaglia and Angela Christensen (Aeron) of Shawnee, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Viscek; and three sisters, Margaret, Annie, and Theresa. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary, and three brothers; Gregory, Louie, and Bernie.
Visitation will be from 9:15-11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
