Christian Leonel Cortes-Alfaro, 22, of Olathe, KS passed away unexpectedly while attending college at Fort Hay State University. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Amos Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Christian’s life will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN or to AMANC, Magisterio Nacional 100; Tlalpan Centro, Tlalpan, 14000 Mexico City, Mexico.
Christian was born February 25, 1999, in Mexico City, Mexico. He attended elementary school in Mexico City at “Colegio Green Hills” and when Christian was 12 years old, he moved to Kansas U.S.A. and finished middle school at Indian Trail in Olathe, KS. He graduated from Olathe South High School in 2017, where was on the Principal Honors Roll and was a member of Robotics Club, the Wrestling team, and editor of the Olathe South High School newspaper, The Eyrie.
After high school, Christian attended Fort Hays State University where he was majoring in Biology and was planning to pursue a career in medical research. While in College, Christian was on the Honors College Student, Deans Honor Roll, and member of American Medical Student Association Premedical Club. During his time in Hays, KS, he worked at Gutierrez Mexican Restaurant to subsidize his college expenses. He was a self-taught pianist and guitarist and enjoyed writing his own music. When he had a little free time, he also enjoyed the challenge of a good chess match.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Agustin Alfaro. Christian is survived by his parents Laura and James Hildenbrand, his grandmother, Maria Elena Alfaro, four uncles, Agustin, Alberto, Mauricio, Gerardo, six aunts, Elizabeth, Maria Eugenia, Alejandra, Veronica, Rebeca and Lorena (Agustin’s wife), seven cousins, Gerardo, Michel, Paola, Shirley, Augustine, Emilie, Andrea, and lifelong family friend, Ivan Martinez, Lorena (Ivan’s wife), Lorena (Lorena’s mother) and Rene Fajardo.
