Cindy L. (Brown) Smith

July 21, 1957 — July 5, 2023

Lenexa, KS

Cindy (Brown) Smith passed away suddenly at her home in Lenexa, Kansas, on July 5, 2023, at the age of 65. She was born July 21, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Bob and Donna Brown, and raised in Lathrop, Missouri.

Cindy married Greg Smith on February 3, 1984, and together they raised four children: Ryan Smith, Rachel (Jared) Bond, Aaron Smith, and Katherine Smith. She is survived by her husband; four children; her father; her sisters, Roberta Brown and Brenda Brown; and two grandchildren, Evie and Theo Bond. Her mother preceded her in death.

Cindy’s love for the Lord was evident throughout her everyday life. One of her favorite verses was Exodus 15:2 (“The Lord is my strength and my song”), and she devoted this strength and joyful song to serving others, especially her family. She was always available and interested in her children’s lives and she loved spending time with her grandchildren: they were the apple of her eye. She was a loving and committed daughter and sister, and she gave her husband the best 38 years of his life. She had a kind and gentle spirit, and always had a positive attitude. Her smile could light up a room, and her laughter and goofiness were infectious. She delighted in the joys and successes of her loved ones and was the biggest champion and cheerleader for many. Her talent and creativity shined when she was cooking (her amazing meals were enjoyed by all who had the good fortune of having them), decorating her home, or hosting a celebration or holiday.

In addition to being a loving and devoted mother, she worked to help build their family business, taking on the role of CFO while simultaneously raising four children. Cindy will continue to be deeply loved and greatly missed on earth but will be celebrated in heaven. There are many ways to honor Cindy’s life and legacy, but here are a few ideas that Cindy would have appreciated: have an impromptu dance party when the mood strikes, fully enjoy a bar of chocolate, say ‘yes’ to that trip (whether it’s to the thrift store or an international destination), go outside to appreciate a good storm or stargaze, walk barefoot in the grass, give an unexpected gift to a loved one just ‘cause, or intentionally go out of your way to do something thoughtful or helpful for others.

Cindy’s visitation will take place on July 11th from 5-7 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS 66203. The family will hold a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to City Union Mission or Shelter KC , two organizations in which Cindy invested time, talent, and resources throughout her life.
