Clara Micheels passed away peacefully on July 17, 2021. Clara was born a surviving twin on December 29, 1928. Her parents were Ignaz Gross and Genoveva Greschner Gross. The homeland for her family when she was young was Schmiedshau, Czechoslovakia. She also lived in Kosice, Slovakia and Linz, Austria.
Clara and her family were forced to move many times and had been displaced during the World War II years. The Redemptorist Fathers and the Catholic Church sponsored Clara and her family to immigrate to the United States and help them find housing and employment. Clara’s family settled in Kansas City. Clara first worked for the John and Isabel Goulding family in Kansas City, MO.
Clara met her future husband in English night class and married Ernest Micheels on July 3rd, 1954. She enjoyed celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2004 and was married for 57 years, primarily living in Overland Park. Clara was a trained seamstress and excellent cook. She worked for the Shawnee Mission Unified School district at Shawnee Mission West as an auxiliary employee for 25 years. Clara enjoyed watching comedy movies, music, traveling by car only, her grandchildren, reading, puzzles, pets, andespecially desserts. Going to church and her faith were very important to her. She had a good sense of humor and treated people with kindness and respect. She valued people and their personal integrity and principles rather than material things.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ignaz Gross and Genoveva Greschner Gross and her husband Ernest Micheels. She is survived by her daughter Marlene (Tim) Little, Grapevine, TX; daughter Caroline (David) Wild, Milford, KS; and son Tony (Diana) Micheels, Shawnee, KS. her grandchildren, Lauren Little, John Wild, Leigh Polacek, Lindsey Blochberger, Valerie Merkel, Mindy Micheels, Thomas Micheels, and great-grandchildren, Clara Polacek, Maya Blochberger and Lorenzo Blochberger.
Our family would like to Thank all the staff at Brookdale Memory Care unit and Catholic Hospice group for the amazing care and compassion that they gave our mother.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 21, 2021 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, Rosary at 6:00 pm at the Amos Family Funeral home located at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS. 66203. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 22, 2021 at 10:00 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
